I didn't think I had that in the Netra T1 200, but now when I
look...
cd0 at atapibus0 drive 0: <LG      DVD-ROM DRN-8080B, 2001/07/31, 4.03> cdrom removable
So it should be possible, and that's the original drive in the
machine.
The next task then is to figure out which of my drives have the
ability to write a DVD-R platter.  The capabilities are evidently
not displayed in the probing.
Googling a bit reveals that the drive in my old Lenovo T60 is
apparently capable of writing a DVD-R platter:
