Depends.  How hard would it (putatively) be to change them back, back
to being usable as general-purpose keys, coëval with the rest of the
keyboard's keys?  "Hack the kernel source"?  "Diddle the config,
reconfig the kernel"?  "wsconsctl ..."?  "sysctl ..."?

Providing a sysctl knob would be trivial - I did something like that with mouse button emulation on ADB keyboards.
