RE: Polymer Sparc cases. Was "Re (2): Removing the video card from the ss 10."

Back in the day, quite a few SS10 clones (using actual Sun SS10 motherboards) came in a painted all-metal case manufactured by Litec. There were a few other all-metal cases used by other OEMs, too. In addition, the Axil S311 appears to have used a plastic-coated all-metal chassis.

Unfortunately, those original Litec cases are now ***much*** rarer than even Sun SS10s.

Nobody here worked at Sun and can speak authoritatively?

My best guess is polycarbonate.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycarbonate
It can not be solvent welded.  Brittleness can result from
depolymerization.  When long chains are broken, there is no simple
means of re-polymerizing.

Poly(methyl methacrylate) has good long term stability and solvent
welds very successfully.

I've used dichloromethane to solvent weld acrylic.

Work in a fume hood or outdoors.

Move to a steel case?
