The SPARC machines up to the Ultra machines used EPROMs for the firmware/boot
code.

The Ultrasparc based machines were the first that had the firmware/boot
code in flash.

Sun used to distribute stand-alone flash update environments that
could be netbooted onto a Ultra1 or Ultra2 and could update the flash.
I think the for Netra-T1 line, they had a special kernel that you
booted from a Solaris environment, but they never packaged a standalone
bootable for those machines (at least for the Netra-T1 105).
