Re: TSTILE lockups on disk dump/backups

As I recall, the bootstrap is smart enough to be looking in the filesystem for the file “netbsd”, so I can just rename the current “netbsd” to “netbsd.9.4” and name the 10.1 kernel to “netbsd” and it should boot the 10.1.kernel - right? (I tried it and it looks fine)

Which kernel is the most useful? I see:

-rw-r--r-- 1 611 611 5734681 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-GENERIC.MP.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 611 611 5721235 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-GENERIC.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 611 611 2263029 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-GENERIC_601.gz
-r--r--r-- 1 611 611 6139563 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-GENERIC_MD.gz
-r--r--r-- 1 611 611 243443 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-GENERIC_MD.symbols.gz
-r--r--r-- 1 611 611 2947168 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-INSTALL.gz
-r--r--r-- 1 611 611 137756 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-INSTALL.symbols.gz
-r--r--r-- 1 611 611 2514138 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-INSTALL_601.gz
-r--r--r-- 1 611 611 112760 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-INSTALL_601.symbols.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 611 611 2728011 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-POWERMAC_G5.MP.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 611 611 2712071 Dec 17 20:29 netbsd-POWERMAC_G5.gz

Ignore the G5, 601 and symbols. (MD?) I presume that MP is “multiprocessor”. My machine has one processor, so I should use “netbsd-GENERIC.gz, right? (That’s the one I tried)

The test case that reveals the bug only runs once a week, but I should be able to twist its tail and make it unhappy more quickly if I abuse it.

Fortunately, although the machine is “in production”, it is very lightly used.

Thanks for your help,
