So I was just thinking, can I take the 7410 CPU from my digital audio and put it in the QS?

I think that should Just Work(tm).

If it is a hardware problem this could at the least give me a direction at where to look at. After some thought I've remember this, when I first got the machine it would KP a lot in OS X. Apple changed the CPU and the KPs stopped. Is the 7450 crippled with design bugs?

I don't know, I haven't heard about hardware trouble with 7450 CPUs, and the one in my iBook works just fine ( although thanks to lack of a big external cache it's not noticeably faster than a single 500MHz 7400 with 1MB cache even though it runs at 800MHz )

If so, and that swapping is possible, this would at least allow me to have a running machine (even if 1/4th the speed of the dual 800). If that fails, it means the mobo's at fault and maybe I can see if the DA's problem is the PSU. In which case I could swap it with the QS's (with some moding obviously).

The PSU should be a bog standard ATX part, IIRC most G4s shipped with 250W PSUs so you probably have something suitable sitting on a shelf gathering dust ;)

have fun
Michael
