The odd thing is that RPI_EFI.fd at John's site started life as a straight copy of the one in this release: https://rpi4-uefi.dev/v1-14-release-for-pi-4/
The only thing I remember doing was changing the console preference to "Serial" and disabling the 3 GB memory limit on the first boot. So, I'm not sure why it isn't working for other people. :-\
