Interesting - it does NOT fail!

stty on the remote system shows

speed 38400 baud;
lflags: echoe echoke echoctl pendin
iflags: -ixany -imaxbel -brkint
oflags: -oxtabs
cflags: cs8 parenb

and it also did not fail while selecting the text for cut&paste!

(The stty output is identical in all cases.)
