I can't believe it, but I went to a local junk shop and they had a  
used modem cable. I plugged it into the built-in serial port and it  
worked first try with userppp:

I tried different things and tried different numbers, but the fastest  
I can connect at is 28800. I guess that is the limit of the serial  
port, maybe?

So, it is working with the built-in serial port. Does this mean that  
the IOBlix is bad, or could I have something else wrong?

I am not sure how soon I can find another serial card.
