No exact idea.

The NetBSD project decided to go with the egcs distribution, and you'll find
egcs 1.1.1 (or is it 1.1.2 already) in NetBSD-1.4.

I understand this is roughly equivalent to gcc-2.8.1, but with some additional
optimizing features, and better maintained.
