Memory problem Part II

It just gets more interesting.....

I had written the mailing list about a problem I developed when adding
more ram to my Amiga 4000 running NetBSD 1.3.2.

I had removed 2 16meg simms from the first two slots, placed them in the
second two slots, and replaced them with two 32meg simms. I have used
all four slots previously at one point or another so I'm convinced they
are not the problem. I had a lockup at one point in the boot sequence when
trying to boot into NetBSD with the Warp Engine configured for all the ram.
However, by changing one jumper, and setting the WE to only recognize
64 megs of ram, I could boot into NetBSD no problem, or after compiling
a limit of 64megs into the kernel I could boot with no problem. However
when trying a limit of 80 megs (my largest contiguous block) I would get
the same problem. I have discovered that it is somehow related to the
Picasso II card I use for video. When powering up the machine the screen
(which used to be just blank blackness) now has lines running across it,
kind of like a tv with a bad vert hold. It clears once an OS is running.
However, when I experience the lockup problem under netbsd, I still have
a cursor, and by waiting until the disk activity is finished, and then
typing my login name and password, and then hitting enter for term type,
I can do stuff, it just doesn't show up on the screen. Starting X causes
the screen to clear, but X doesn't come up.

Any ideas whatsoever greatly appreciated.

Jef
