Various things
Hello, I'm Alessio from Italy.
I would like to know:
1- If I boot NetBSD1.3 from AmigaDOS, with 'LoadBSD -aA netbsd', on startup I
have 1669 free mem pages, when I boot NetBSD1.3 from its bootblock after a
reset I have 1624 free mem pages: why this and not viceversa?
2- I have a Rank Xerox 4030 laser printer and I would like to use it with
NetBSD1.3. I look in the /etc/printcap and I saw that there should be a file
called /dev/lp. I haven't such a filein my /dev directory, so I changed it to
/dev/par0, the parallel port to which is connected the printer, I started the
lpd, the printer started printing too but 'she' only ejected paper with not I
want and white one. What I have to do? (I tried also MAKEDEV lp but it doesn't
work)
3 - Why, in general, I'm not be able to compile anything, I will explain:
I downloaded some GNU software, like gcc, g77, etc, but compilation stops
because of errors, warnings, etc. PS: I have installed only the NetBSD 1.3
binaries, and I have the link '/sys ->/usr/include/sys', and I follow Install
instructions in the vaious install readme docs.
For example. I tried to compile NCSA Mosaic and gcc exited with errors
because it couldn't find the Xm libraries.
4 - Do you think that will be useful recompiling the kernel with 68040 options
to speedup the system? if yes, how?
Thank you, Alessio Cappelli
