  Thanks plenty for the pointer!  For some reason netstart had not configured
my default gateway.  Upon re-reading the FAQ, I discovered that I could solve
the problem by using:

route add default <remote-host>

  Adding the name of my current remote host to the /etc/mygate file solved the
problem for the netstart script.  Now, how can this be made to adapt to a
dyamic IP?
