dvips is part of the TeX-tree, it should be found below /usr/local/tex.
There are no precompiled fonts on the Gateway-CD. Either you let dvips
do the job (should be no problem, it is only time consuming), or you may
be able to use some ready-made fonts, e.g. from CTAN (e.g. ftp.dante.de).
