Yes, indeed, it has an NVIDIA GeForce 320M.

Oh, that sounded so very promising!

However unfortunately it made not one bit of difference.

Thank you for the idea though, and also thank you for pointing out the
alternate framebuffer driver that might also be worth looking into.
