p5-PDL is a package for PDL, the "Perl Data Language" -- essentially,
a matlabization of perl, including an interactive shell.
The import message is here:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.os.netbsd.devel.pkgsrc.wip.cvs/15475
As I said in the import message:
The package currently supports the builtin 3D graphing routines, but
not the PLplot or PGPLOT bindings. I hope to soon package up PLplot
so that PDL can use it. I do not plan to do so for PGPLOT, as its
license would be problematic for many people.
The PGPLOT library is "available without fee [only] for education,
academic research and non-commercial purposes."
The main things I am concerned about with the package:
1. The imported package generates a few pkglint warnings:
WARN: possible direct use of command "test" found. Use ${TEST} instead.
WARN: possible direct use of command "install" found. Use ${INSTALL} instead.
WARN: "BUILD_DEPENDS" has to appear earlier.
WARN: "DEPENDS" has to appear earlier.
0 errors and 4 warnings found.
Are these real problems, or just noise?
2. The PDL 3D graphing library uses libGL and libGLU. Should the
package pick them up from /usr/X11R6 or from graphics/MesaLib
and graphics/glu?
3. Would anyone use a non-X11 version of this package? Should I
try to make X11 and non-X11 variants?
I would appreciate any help. I think this program is a fun and useful
tool.
Alan
