It is in pkgsrc-wip. In fact, I use it for audio/arts too. I will import
it to pkgsrc/audio and will add some PKG_OPTIONS for alsa (so
packages like audio/bmp, audio/hydrogen, audio/libao, audio/terminatorx,
and audio/xmp can use it too).
Feel free to test the wip/alsa-lib and wip/alsa-utils.

I haven't looked, but you should probably just need the .la entries. Then
it will dynamically create the +CONTENTS from it.

Does it install perl scripts? Check if they use XML::Parser (or grep for
XML).
