Re: cvs->git?

I'm neither pkgsrc nor NetBSD developer but
I'd like to add my two cents too.

Your initial question was about wip, not about pkgsrc.
I personally think that the main advantage of DVCS over centralized systems
is absense of "commit right" notion. In my view everything else
including technical advantages are secondary. As *everybody* can take
account on sourceforge, moving to git gives nothing new for WIP development.
Efficient and painless branching, huge benefit of git, also will not
give any benefits for WIP development because branching
in WIP are very very rare.
So, I personally don't see significant benefits for cvs->git move for WIP.

At the same time, it whould be VERY, VERY nice to see a main pkgsrc
repository on git, bzr or whatever else DVCS. And the same for NetBSD source
code. Here distributed development may drammatically improve both NetBSD and
pkgsrc development process. Also in NetBSD and pkgsrc trees branches are
regular, so git may show all of its advantages.
