I couldn't repeat this.

Next time you build smpeg, do a "make clean-depends clean" first. Then 
save all the output (2>&1) of a "make" in smpeg to see if it says why nas 
is not buildlinked.

Also after your "make clean" in multimedia/smpeg, what do you get for the 
following?

  make show-var VARNAME=PKG_BUILD_OPTIONS.SDL
