Apropos: how to install from the latest sources for earlier versions of macOS? Latest version of bison, sed, tar, bc, meson and more compile and run without issues on 10.13. SmartOS pkgsrc now provides up to date binaries for 10.15 onwards. Earlier macOS are tied to outdated package versions. How to skip binaries and get the latest? Apart of pulling directly from GNU or *BSD. Thanks.
Just bootstrap and compile all packages yourself as normal. It would be nice to keep the older builds running, as there are still plenty of packages that do build for users who only need the basics. However, without additional hardware and resources it just isn't practical.
