FreeBSD are also currently with 2.3.X:

There is a bug open to upgrade to 2.4.X with patches which may be useful
to pkgsrc developers:

The only concern I have, Dovecot developers mainly work with Linux, so
major new version releases could be trouble with Illumos/Solaris and
BSD.
