If you're experiencing the same intermittent audio glitches that I
sometimes encounter, then I've noticed switching away from X to the
console and back again seems to help.

On my system, I do that by hitting Control-Alt-F1 to go to the console,
and then Control-Alt-F5 to return to the desktop. It's interesting to
listen to the effect while audio is playing.

And for the record, if that *is* what you're experiencing, then it's not
a problem with Firefox per se.
