Some upstreams are just unwilling to accept patches for other
platforms and there is nothing to be done.
Sometimes you can open a dialog and find an upstream dev who is
willing to suggest a form in which some subset of patches might be
accepted and it is possible to at least reduce the ongoing patch
maintenance load. Sometimes... :)

If packagers from other BSDs are willing to work together a fork could
end up being a very helpful way to maintain the diffs
