I think so too. There is another pair of other build-tool packages that
conflict (devel/gnome-common conflicts with devel/autoconf-archive) and
they don't cause me great trouble.

Possibly, I was thinking to do that if the next step takes a while. It
would need some cleanup though; I made some small bool-related hacky
patches that may depend on the gcc version I'm using (gcc8).

This may not be the latest version in the 4.x series though. I just did
this one because it was already unfinished in wip, and it seemed to make
sense to get this one working before the next big change.
