I have a similar problem on one installation - it is NetBSD-current
9.99.73 as of 4 days ago (full pkg_rolling-replace completed around
that time). On this laptop thunderbird fails to open any folders; I
created a completely new profile, was able to connect to my gmail
account (this one) and send a test mail; I could not open any mailbox
for reading though - the left-hand site remained empty.
On another system (same NetBSD version, VirtualBox guest) thunderbird
worked ok.
