I object to this change, on two grounds:

  It is significant and was not discussed.  It changes the previous
  consensus that unison 2.51 should own the name "unison" and the older
  versions should have versioned names.

  unison 2.51 is the only maintained version, and using it is the
  standard approach.  Currently, successful use of older versions is
  theoretical, and is in the best case a workaround for other systems
  not having the maintained version.  In the general case, one might
  have both 2.51 and 2.48 installed at once, and use 2.51 for replicas
  with only up-to-date hosts, and 2.48 for a replica with an out-of-date
  host.  Thus one has to script which version to use for which replica
  anyway.  On balance, I think the difficulty imposed on those who are
  up to date, while small, is significant compared to what I see as
  near-zero utility for those wanting to interwork with out-of-date
  systems.
