Strange error rebuilding xfce4-thunar

Hi,

While doing 'pkg_rolling-replace' under -current (from yesterday,
amd64), I hit the following:
-----

Making all in thunarx
gmake[2]: Entering directory

What on earth is going on? Should I have a functioning X display while
building pkgsrc? The laptop I use for this has its AMD FirePRO broken
in a weird way, any attempt to start it with some graphics results in
a hard reset with a subsequent message that the component has
overheated, so I can only run it on the console.

If I direct DISPLAY to some other willing to accept connections, the
build succeeds! It seems to me this is wrong...
