You could try following a guide such as this:

and having a go yourself.  It would actually be interesting to see how
someone with "zero skills" gets on with it, as for many of us with
experience we can often forget to document things we assume are known
by everyone.

Your tutorial is very helpful and seams easy to follow.
I myself started from "zero" by following official pkgsrc developer's guide
and managed to package some pieces of software right away
(some python modules and later on megatools).

CMUCL, however, is probably not the best piece of software to start with
because it requires to it (earlier) self to build, i.e. it cannot be
bootstraped from anything that already exists in pkgsrc.

I don't want to sound discouraging, I am just saying that CMCUL can particularly be tricky.

In any case, best of luck. I would love to see CMCUL in pkgsrc myself ;-).
