I've tested on below Solars 10 x86.

        Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 s10x_u10wos_17b X86

I found another problem related to pkg-config with ruby193-base,
but I haven't met such error message.

I think you have some PATH related problem and I set the PATH as:

/usr/pkg/bin:/usr/sfw/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/bin:/usr/pkg/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/ucb

Of course, /usr/ucb, /usr/sbin and /sbin are extra directories.

Best regards.
