Yet another advice. I'd suggest you to create ~/.cvsrc config 
like the following.

diff -uN
rdiff -u
update -d -P
cvs -z2 -q
checkout -P

"update -dP" is especially important for working with pkgsrc and wip.
"diff -u" is also helpful. The same for "cvs -q".
