  | I understood the problem. I was pointing out other sides of the situation
  | too.

OK, but since that wasn't what was being asked, you could have perhaps
mentioned that...

  | I see it another way (for this specific problem): pkgsrc is optimized
  | towards making it easier for the package end-user (not pkgsrc builder).

It is currently set up so that binary package users have a better hope
of working, yes, but only because binary packages aren't doing rational
things with dependencies either.

  | Except in the case where binary packages are used on different systems,
  | because of libdb4-4.6.so.6 versus libdb4-4.7.so.7.

Yes, as I mentioned down near the end of that long message (maybe you got
bored before there, and I wouldn't blame you), before changes are made to
the way things work we need a solution to the binary package dependency
problems.

  | As for the increased of the API requirements, I don't know why that was
  | done.

My point was, that regardless of whether it was correct or not (I have no
idea) it is (current binary package issues aside) entirely inappropriate,
as there's no way db4 can possibly know what version of itself is
appropriate for anyone else, regardless of what may have changed.

Was there anything in my message that you actually disagree with?
(other than the first point in your reply and this message of course.)
