problem building pkgsrc-2007Q4 py-Scientific on linux 64 bit

I'm having some trouble building py-Scientific on a 64 bit linux machine.

AFAICT, the mpipython program is not built properly, and then bmake
install fails.   I've captured a full build log, available at:
