I don't understand what presents a problem here, this is well-known for ages,
basically any pkgsrc developer should be aware of this already.

Alright, lets' consider that this points us to documentation defect.
Do you mean that we should extend the Guide with a note?
Or with another sort of explanation?
Which section? 19.4.1?
If so, could you write any text?
If not text, could you proof-read and articulate what is missing then?
Do you mean that we need to announce the change on tech-pkg to draw the 
attention?
