I'll look into this.

I can reproduce the error on NetBSD 10 (with gcc10).  I concur that setting gcc12 is not a reasonable fix.
Basically, it's almost always a bug to do so.  The real question is what C++ standards
are required by upstream, are they documented, do we meet them, and does
upstream  fail to build if they are not met.
