 Am I correct in thinking the state of this PR is:
 
  - there is no problem as long as one turns on cwrappers;
  - with old wrappers, untransform.sed is zorching shell scripts and we
    aren't sure why;
  - nobody really feels inclined to fix the old wrappers.
