The following reply was made to PR pkg/51594; it has been noted by GNATS.

A little bit, but I won't have time to deep dive into this problem at
 the moment...

There is a GCC 4.8.2 installed via Oracle IPS at

 /usr/bin/gcc
 /usr/ccs/bin/gcc

It is used solely to bootstrap the GCC I use for pkgsrc, which is
 installed at

 /opt/pkg-gcc/4.9.4/bin/gcc

and of course it comes first in the path. Unless someone fiddles around
with the path, the 4.8.2 GCC should never be used by pkgsrc.

 That's a thing I can't test right now. I have "USE_CWRAPPERS=no" in my
mk.conf and at the moment I don't want to shake up the installation.
I'll try to remember to look next time I get to pkgsrc again.
