not willing to disable all warnings just they couldn't get their act


Or disable -Werror for GCC 4.4 on Linux. This seems to be sufficient based on my tests.

I'm not sure exactly how much less invasive it is than disabling fortify. At least warnings from fortify are still shown and if we're using _FORTIFY_SOURCE=2, runtime errors can still be caught.
