 Forgot to mention a few details:
 
 my .xsession file is:
 
 --8<--
 #! /bin/sh
 
 eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session`
 exec startxfce4
 -->8--
 
 and I have cleared all stale data from .cache/sessions.
 I have no idea where the "env" command is that complains about xfwm4 not
 being found, but runnint w/o window manager certainly would cause
 the issue.
 
 The binary (of course) is in /usr/pkg/bin/xfwm4 (and in my default search
 path).
