IIRC, pkg_rolling-replace does not deinstall the packages that use a
package foo while it's updating foo, nor foo itself. So perhaps it's
 related to that?

On a system where you're seeing this, can you do "pkg_delete -r
gobject-introspection" before rebuilding it? (This will recursively
delete all packages that use gobject-introspection, so make sure you
know what those are so you can reinstall them later.)
