The following reply was made to PR pkg/51266; it has been noted by GNATS.

 What with the revelation in:

   http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2016/10/18/msg078519.html

I hoped this might have some bearing on my problems in this PR.

After updating I rebuilt everything from empty DESTDIR/objdir.

So far, my amd64 host fails in the same fashion as originally reported.

I still cannot fathom why my local builds misbehave so, but TNF snapshots
(and apparently everyone else's) don't. About the only thing left is that
my host OS is 7.0_STABLE while the TNF build hosts run 6.1.

 I also build 7.0_STABLE for i386, amd64, and sparc and 6.1_STABLE for i386
on the same hosts and they don't have any problems.

It's only -current after the switch to GCC 5.4.0 that has trouble. I seem
to recall I had no problems during the brief period that GCC 5.3.x was in
 use.

(Also, I used to not have problems with non-x86 platforms even with
GCC 5.4.0, but now macppc exhibits the same problem.)
