I think having one package per programming language is a good approach.

I did not even see that we had an old version of thrift around, I simply added the package from the bug report. Sounds like we should look into updating the 0.7.0 ones. Tonnerre?

Yes, and we already have that in a sense (there is ruby-thrift as a separate thing).
