The README lists that the source of Gnu FreeFont is
    http://www.nongnu.org/freefont/
That changed several years ago to
    http://www.gnu.org/freefont/

The current version of Gnu FreeFont is 
    20100919
but the version in your current distro at this time is
    20090104

Highly recommend an update.
