Using pkg_rolling-replace-0.24
If invoked with the -n command line switch ("don't actually run" the
replace commands), the output contains lines similar to (continuation
manually inserted for clarity)

        RR> Would run: /usr/bin/env PKGNAME_REQD=${pkg}-* \
        /usr/bin/make IN_PKG_ROLLING_REPLACE=1 clean || fail=1

It seems to me that it would be much more useful if this output contained
the actual variable substitution for ${pkg}-*
