   | Sorry, GLX is a X server extension that makes OpenGL apps work.
   | You can check with xdpyinfo(1).

OK, thanks, as a server extension, I almost certainly have it everywhere
if it doesn't depend in any way upon the graphics card (for its existence
anyway) - certainly both my laptop, and work desktop systems claim to
support it (and SGI-GLX) and if they do, I suspect everything else I'm
ever likely to care about will too (they're all going to be running similar
enough versions of the X server).

My guess in this is that the problem is in one of the (not Xorg) libraries
that get used, and I've been kind of hoping that one day the relevant one
would just start working properly again (after all, it seems to on NetBSD 5).

Finding which one is causing problems has never been a high enough priority
though (it was the better half's favourite game for a long time, but she's
moved on to other stuff now, and as long as she still had an old working
binary I managed to stay with my head atop my neck when upgrades would have
broken it... now things are back working (on 5.0) again if this one ever
 returns to favour!)
