I can't really tell. Recently, I was able to sync the source tree only in larger intervals, as I had several other problems building on Solaris.
But the problem seems to originate upstream. It is mentioned several times in the original source files, that the examples directory should not be build by default, and yet exactly this happens. BTW: Because of this, I would not categorize this as Solaris problem. The problem just happens to strike on Solaris, but it has the potential to cause failure on other platforms as well.
