 Yes, the problem also happens with -O3 (and -Os).
 
 Are BUILDLINK_TRANSFORM and WRAPPER_TRANSFORM_CMDS documented anywhere? 
   I'd be happy to update the patch, but I don't understand how 
 transforms work.
