 As of -current 5.99.43 and pkgsrc-2010Q4, this problem still exists.
 My workaround mentioned previously allows it to link and install.
 
 The runtime fails differently, though, claiming:
 
    wine: failed to initialize: Cannot dlopen non-loadable 
/usr/lib/libpthread.so.1
 
 Which library is a symlink to libpthread.so.1.0.
