 Well... ultimately it has to exist in some form so somebody can
 generate and update the bootstrap package. And it sounds like it's
 currently broken.
 
 My inclination would be to rework it so the bootstrap kit is part of
 the download (like e.g. lang/ghc) but that's quite a bit more work
 than I can spare right now. :-/
