   | Looks like your environment has a bug, because textproc/p5-XML-Parser

No, that's not it, the PR clearly said "pkg_add", not pkgsrc or make,
what's being used there is a binary package, and sure enough, the sparc
binary package for p5-XML-Parser (and most likely, those for other
architectures) depends u\only upon perl, not upon expat.

This is just yet another example of the "expat is used by the world
but is expected to be in the base system" that kills people using
pkgsrc modular xorg, instead of the X distribution sets.

The answer is to install xbase (or whichever of the x* sets expat is in)
and then it will be present.

Longer term, we absolutely need a better way (and moving expat from x*
into base just solves one instance of the problem - a common instance,
 but just one).
