I've used the OpenDocument plugin in Abiword 2.4.5 and 2.4.6 with no
issues off and on for some time now. (Or I should say, without
encountering any crashes.) It seems to work fine for me on i386 and
macppc, so I wonder if this is a 64-bit problem somewhere, or there's
some amd64-specific bit that's not getting dealt with correctly.

I don't know if you've already tried this or not, but it'd be helpful
to add CONFIGURE_ARGS+= --enable-debug to the Makefile.common file in
the abiword directory, and then recompile both the application and the
plugins. That should give you an Abiword application that provides
diagnostic output (if you start it from a terminal) and will have debug
 symbols available.

(Alternately, it'd be interesting to see how the newer version of this
application performs, it's now at release 2.6.4, including various
 OpenDocument plugin fixes.)

 Regards,

 Dave
